PhotographyDegrees.org was created by Patricia and Suzanne Davies of Madison Wisconsin in May 2010. As working photographers who pursued different paths in training for our career (Patricia holds a BA in Photography, Suzanne is self-taught) we felt we had a unique perspective to offer prospective students on the various paths that exist to educating oneself in the field of photography.
Looking back on our paths, we can both recognize that there are tradeoffs to pursuing a self-taught, mentorship, AA, BA, and MA in Photography route to becoming a professional photographer. Unfortunately, we feel that although there are a number of sites which tell students about various programs that exist, there are few websites that present in a non-biased way the may options that exist and discuss their relative merits and drawbacks.
